Kou Wei Meets with Al-Falih, Saudi Arabia Minister of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources
Enhancing China-Saudi Arabia Power Cooperation, Serving the "Belt and Road" Initiative
On April 25, Kou Wei, Chairman of State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) met with Khalid A. Al-Falih, Minister of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia and his delegation in Beijing. The two sides reached consensus on enhancing power cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia, jointly promoting grid connectivity, pursuing the "Belt and Road" cooperation, and developing the third-party market.
Kou Wei expressed his welcome to the arrival of Al-Falih and his delegation and introduced State Grid’s latest achievements. He said that the company actively participates in the "Belt and Road" Initiative and shares its development results and experience with other countries involved. Saudi Arabia is an important country along the routes. China and Saudi Arabia have established a comprehensive strategic partnership and set up China-Saudi Arabia High-level Joint Committee, which has effectively deepened the cooperation of the two countries in various fields. State Grid pays great attention to the power market in Saudi Arabia and is working with local power companies to promote cooperation in areas such as power grids upgrading, smart grid, and renewable energy integration. Guided by the principle of achieving shared growth through discussion and collaboration, State Grid will fully utilize its comprehensive advantages, actively participate in the development of the Saudi Arabia’s power industry, explore opportunities with local energy and power enterprises to develop third-party market in neighboring countries, and jointly contribute to promoting the "Belt and Road" Initiative.
Al-Falih congratulated State Grid on its achievements. He said that as the world’s largest utility, State Grid’s performance and grid operation control technology are very impressive. China and Saudi Arabia have broad cooperation in infrastructure, energy, and other fields. Saudi Arabia attaches great importance to power cooperation with China. Adequate and stable power supply is of far-reaching significance to meeting the needs of the people in the Middle East, and vital to local people’s livelihood and economic development. He hopes that State Grid could share its technology and management experience to support the upgrading of power grids' facilities, smart level and business model in Saudi Arabia in the future. He also hopes that the two sides could strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the field of grid connectivity and jointly explore third-party market cooperation in other "Belt and Road" countries so as to better benefit the local people along the routes.
Before the meeting, Al-Falih and his delegation visited the National Power Dispatching & Control Center. Zhu Guangchao, Deputy Chief Engineer and Director General of International Cooperation Department of State Grid, as well as heads of Department of Science and Technology, Department of UHV Transmission Projects , and China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Co. Ltd. attended the meeting.
