Confronting the challenge that extreme weather of low temperature, rain, snow and frost may still occur this winter, State Grid Corporation of China has promoted the translation of research findings on anti-icing and disaster reduction into practical use. Recently, SGCC has held the Conference on Research Findings Application of Anti-Icing & Disaster Reduction in Beijing to display the results from 28 scientific research projects developed in the past year and coordinate the application of research finds.

The Conference has provided a platform to display the technology breakthrough in grid emergency control system, 500 kV DC ice-melting device, and mechanical ice-melting device for power transmission line, covering the  fields of grid emergency handling, ice disaster monitoring, electrical ice-melting, mechanical de-icing, post-disaster emergency repairing, and etc. Such scientific fruits as mechanical de-icing devices for power transmission line, automatic grid monitoring systems, and microwave ice-melting machines, are characterized by strong capacity of innovation and applicability. It is said that certain mature research findings have experienced field tests and put into use for anti-icing and disaster reduction this winter.

The severe ice disaster occurred early 2008 has heavily affected the stability of power grid operation and exerted disastrous impact on part of the local grid. SGCC quickly studied this accident, made best of the overall strength, integrated both internal and external resources, and cooperated with scientific research institutes to make joint research on ice disaster mechanism, meteorological alarming and new materials, so as to carry out R&D on disaster reduction in a comprehensive way.

Representatives at the conference think that the scientific research fruits have provided powerful technological support to the study on anti-icing and disaster reduction, so we shall speed up the transformation and application of scientific achievements.
