Shu Yinbiao Attended 2018 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting and Delivered a Speech on the Energy Transition Forum
From 23rdto 25th Jan, 2018, ShuYinbiao, Chairman of State Grid paid a visit to Davos, Switzerland to attend the 2018 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting. The theme of the Forum is ¡°Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World¡±. During his trip, Shu Yinbiao listened to the speech of Liu He, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the General Office of the Central Leading Group for Financial and Economic Affairs, titled Pursue High-quality Development, Work Together for Global Economic Prosperity and Stability and attended the series of activities organized by the delegation of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. On 25th Jan, local time, Shu Yinbiao attended the ¡°Energy Transition¡± Forum on invitation. He had a discussion of the building of a more clean, secure and affordable energy future for all with four leaders from international organizations and energy companies and delivered a speech.

In his speech, Shu Yinbiao firstly introduced the requirement of the new era on promoting the energy production and consumption revolution, constructing a clean, low-carbon, secure and efficient energy system and building a beautiful China, and then presented the initiatives and achievements of China in recent years in developing UHV power transmission, building strong and smart grid, promoting the development of new energy, implementing electricity replacement and initiating reforms to a market-oriented power system. In the Q&A session, based on such major projects as Zhangbei National Wind/PV/Energy Storage and Transmission Joint Demonstration Project, Shu Yinbiao talked about the challenges posed by the massive integration of new energy and related measures taken by State Grid and shared its innovative practice in promoting re-electrification, building global energy interconnection (GEI) and meeting power demand with clean and green alternatives, gaining positive responses from all sides.

As a member of the Energy Council of World Economic Forum, Shu Yinbiao attended the annual meeting of the Council. Members of the Council mainly include representatives of international organizations, energy ministers of related countries, chairpersons or CEOs of famous international energy companies. Shu Yinbiao illustrated the achievements of China in promoting transition to clean and low-carbon energy and proposed the energy cooperation initiative under the Belt and Road Initiative. This proposal is aimed at uniting all countries to address energy shortage for countries and regions along the ¡°Belt and Road¡± initiative by learning from the experience of China and with clean and green alternatives.

During the meeting, Shu Yinbiao attended the Luncheon held by the Argentine government and had talks with President Mauricio Macri and Energy Minister of Argentina on how to deepen cooperation. He also exchanged ideas with leaders of Siemens, CDP, Morgan Stanley, ABB and other international corporations on enhancing bilateral cooperation and developing third-party markets. And a series of important agreements were then reached.
