¡¾CCTV¡¿An Ode to Hard Work: Ambitious Project for a Prosperous Country

Chinese President Xi Jinping pointed out that "the Chinese nation is a nation that values hard work and creativity. It is hard work and creativity that created both the time-honored Chinese culture and the impressive achievements we have today." On the construction sites of some super large projects all over the country, workers are working against the clock to embrace the 19th CPC National Congress with high-quality projects as the best gift.

Now, we are at the construction site of the Central Tibet Power Grid Interconnection in Nyingchi City, Tibet.  Here is the hinterland of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. We can see two iron towers standing on the Northern and Southern bank of the Yarlung Tsangpo River respectively with the assembly and hoisting work being primarily finished. Constructed on a steep terrain, the 13.13 million spare parts and 220,000 tons of building material have to be transported by cableway and assembled by hand. The Central Tiber Power Grid Interconnection Project requires the construction of 3,411 towers.

Central Tibet Power Grid Interconnection Project expands for 2,738 kilometers and winds its way across Lantsang River, Nujiang River and Yarlung Tsangpo River for more than 10 times. It is the power transmission and substation project with the highest altitude in the world. Now, nearly 50,000 workers are working hard day and night to finish the construction as soon as possible as 12 days are needed for building a tower that can be built in only four days on plains.

Extremely cold weather, lack of oxygen, strong wind, aridity, and scorching sun are some of the challenges they have to overcome. With the hard work of workers, iron towers stood up one by one. The Grid Interconnection Project is expected to be finished by September 2018. By then, the problem of power access faced by more than 1.5 million Tibetan people will be solved from the root.

On Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which is the roof of the world, the constructors are sparing no effort to build the "Heavenly Road of Electricity". Meanwhile, on the Lingdingyang Bay in the Southern end of China, a huge bridge linking the mainland with Hong Kong and Macau is preparing for the hoisting of immersed tubes for the submarine tunnel. It is no easier than threading a needle under the sea to hoist such a huge reinforced concrete equipment weighing 6,000 tons and place it between two giant immersed tubes precisely and steadily 30 meters below the surface, with a safe aperture of less than 5 cm to each side, excluding the deviation caused by the measurement and control system and the ocean current.

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is the longest cross-ocean bridge in the world with a total length of 55 km. From a bird's eye view, it is like a big dragon expanding across Lingdingyang Bay. After its construction is finished, the vision of travelling between the three places within half an hour can be realized.

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge can link both sides of the mainland. The Beijing-Zhangjiakou High Speed Railway under construction at the same time is leading the way to the 2022 Winter Olympics. A healthy lifestyle is indispensable for the building of a prosperous society in an all-round way. The high-speed railway that embodies the dream of the Chinese people, will be put into use at the end of 2019, reducing the trip from Beijing to Zhangjiakou from 3 hours to one hour and a half. The Guangting Reservoir Bridge under construction, which is part of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High Speed Railway Project, innovatively applied environmental protection techniques to avoid water pollution.

Zhuo Yue is one of the constructors of the new high-speed railway. His family has been working on railways for four generations. Not far away from Jing-Zhang High Speed Railway is the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway built by Zang Tianyou in 1905. Back then, Zhuo Yue's great grandfather was a machine repairman for the railway. Today, Zhuo Yue has taken over the lap to serve the Winter Olympics.
